IMPACTING THE BIG PICTURE: MAKING CONNECTIONS TO BE PART OF THE SOLUTION TO POVERTY
ACAM’s role in the community is one of both an advocate and a catalyst. ACAM works to raise awareness around the issues affecting the client population served by the ministries with the hope of rallying support for initiatives and funding that will provide pathways out of poverty for individuals and families in Greater Houston. In the community, ACAM helps to create awareness of the benefits of the ministries and their clients’ needs in order to forge mutually-beneficial relationships that produce positive results. ACAM is also working to ensure that all areas of our community have access to resources and assistance at community assistance ministries.
ACAM interfaces directly with local policy-making groups and state agencies such as the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs regarding the needs of the ministries and their clients. ACAM is also a member of One Voice, an advocacy collaborative for health and human services at the state level.
ACAM reaches out to other community assistance ministries, including organizations working in underserved areas, to review interest and capacity to join ACAM’s membership in order to further strengthen the social service safety net in the Greater Houston area.
